Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The tiny town of Chewandswallow was very much like any other tiny town except for its weather which came three times a day, at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

But it never rained rain and it never snowed snow and it never blew just wind. It rained things like soup and juice. It snowed things like mashed potatoes. And sometimes the wind blew in storms of hamburgers. Life for the townspeople was delicious until the weather took a turn for the worse. The food got larger and larger and so did the portions. Chewandswallow was plagued by damaging floods and storms of huge food. The town was a mess and the pople feared for their lives. Something had to be done, and in a hurry.

Synopsis:

In Chewandswallow, meals rain from the sky at appropriate times of the day, but a change in the weather blows in massive problems. "Prediction: Children dreaming up their own weather menus are sure to follow up on the fun."--"Booklist." A "New York Times" Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year. Three-color illustrations.

Synopsis:

If food dropped like rain from the sky, wouldn't it be marvelous! Or would it? It could, after all, be messy. And you'd have no choice. What if you didn't like what fell? Or what if too much came? Have you ever thought of what it might be like to be squashed flat by a pancake?

Sometimes it can be very hard to find a good book to read to an elderly person with dementia. Children's picture books are great but it has to be the right kind. 'Cloudy' was perfect! I have read hundreds of lovely picture books to my mother, but this was the only picture book she ever was really interested in, so interested she read the opening paragraph out loud before I could do so! Pretty amazing considering she
is 92 and so sleepy most of the time!

I had this book as a child and loved it! I took my daughter to a book fair at her school last night and saw this book and it brought back all those childhood memories of reading that book. I am sure she is going to enjoy it as much as I did. It really is a great book for a child who is just begining their journy into reading and it has a great foundation for helping establish their growing imagination.

My mother read this book to my brother and I when we were little. I loved it then and I love it now! It's definitely on my top ten all time favorite childrens books. I hope it will become one of my girls favorite books as well!
