About the Author

andlt;Bandgt;Johnny Gruelleandlt;/Bandgt; (1880-1938) was an extremely talented cartoonist, illustrator, and storyteller. He wrote and illustrated over forty Raggedy Ann and Andy storybooks, including the popular story collections andlt;Iandgt;Raggedy Ann Storiesandlt;/Iandgt; and andlt;Iandgt;Raggedy Andy Stories.andlt;/Iandgt; Johnny Gruelle first began writing stories about Raggedy Ann to entertain his ailing daughter, Marcella. Originally published in 1929, andlt;Iandgt;Marcella: A Raggedy Ann Storyandlt;/Iandgt; was the long-awaited tribute to his beloved daughter, who died at the age of thirteen. Many of the stories, illustrations, and adventures in the Raggedy Ann storybooks were based on Marcella's childhood adventures.
