Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Emily Luccock thought the worst was behind her; she had survived the horrors of Sugar Hill Hall and been reunited with her beloved Aunt and Uncle Twice. Now she is devastated to be left at Mrs. Spilking's Select Academy while her aunt and uncle sail for India. But nothing can top Emily's misery once she spies the dreary school, icy Mrs. Spilking, and, once again, a bowl of tantalizing yet forbidden peppermints! andlt;BRandgt; Emily tries to keep her spirits up while counting the days until she can rejoin Aunt and Uncle Twice. But she soon realizes her aunt and uncle have all but forgotten her, and, worse, Mrs. Spilking's behavior grows increasingly cruel — and suspicious. Can Emily discover what's going on at the dreadful school before her future is destroyed forever?

Now in paperback--the long-awaited sequel to Wallace's popular Victorian thriller "Peppermints in the Parlor," which finds plucky Emily Luccock facing boarding school, a villainous headmistress, and the temptation of peppermints.

About the Author

andlt;Bandgt;Barbara Brooks Wallaceandlt;/Bandgt; has written Victorian mysteries that include a parlor, a tavern, a castle, a scullery, and a gallery. But she claims never to have lived in a tavern or a castle, or owned a house with a parlor, a scullery, or a gallery. So far she has not lived in a tenement, either. She simply dwells in a nice little house in Alexandria, Virginia, with her very nice husband; affectionate Burmese cat, Cleo; and turtle, Peter. Her son, Jimmy, daughter-in-law, Christina, and Victoria and Elizabeth, their two daughters, live nearby.
