Review-a-Day (What is Review-a-Day?)
"The picture that Levy paints is more than a little grim: raunch culture, which is essentially misogynist, callow, simplistic and ubiquitous, breeds women-hating-women who angle for power with men and propagate more raunch under the deceitful guise of feminist empowerment." Christine Smallwood, Salon.com (read the entire Salon.com review)
"Sharp, witty, and utterly convincing, Levy's book is a call to arms for women who have fallen into the trap of phony feminism. The new Uncle Tom is a woman looking to the male chauvinist pig to find out who she is. If Levy's book has the impact that it merits, this won't be true for long." Larissa N. Dooley, Boldtype (read the entire Boldtype review)

Publisher Comments:
In her quest to uncover why this is happening, Levy interviews college women who flash for the cameras on spring break and teens raised on Paris Hilton and breast implants. She examines a culture in which every music video seems to feature a stripper on a pole, the memoirs of porn stars are climbing the best-seller lists, Olympic athletes parade their Brazilian bikini waxes in the pages of Playboy, and thongs are marketed to prepubescent girls. Levy meets the high-powered women who create raunch culture — the new oinking women warriors of the corporate and entertainment worlds who eagerly defend their efforts to be "one of the guys." And she traces the history of this trend back to conflicts between the women's movement and the sexual revolution long left unresolved.
In the tradition of Susan Faludi's Backlash and Naomi Wolf's The Beauty Myth, Levy pulls apart the myth of the Female Chauvinist Pig and argues that what has come to pass for liberating rebellion is actually a kind of limiting conformity. Irresistibly witty and wickedly intelligent, Female Chauvinist Pigs makes the case that the rise of raunch does not represent how far women have come, it only proves how far they have left to go.

Air heads soaring high in a land of their own, perceptions of flying high above the rest, floating on the surface, superficial, pseudo...
The Female Chauvinist Pig [FCP] as it turns out is the latest raging personality prototype that is sweeping over the youth like a fire gone wild with great fervor. FCP is the polar opposite of feminist ideology. Girls today are finding solace in and in a way identifying with ?dumbing? themselves down to fit in. School and colleges cliques today are being defined holding this parameter as of utmost importance, the latest shade of pink nail polish, or lipstick seems to have made its way up the ladder to top priority topic of discussion for months on ends. Giddy headed laughter, an image of fluffy brainless chickens its what these girls crave. Being a bimbo today is cool!! Its en vogue!!
This is a case of identifying with the oppressor; here it is women who are now oppressing women, culling out these personas of acceptability. The foundation stones have been laid, the smart, the opinionated, the informed, the intellectual, etc are to be ostracized.
Videos featuring women bearing much much more than their souls, increasing focus on physical appearance, the defamation of women, the disrespecting women reducing them to objects of lust work in tandem at influencing many a mind creating and reiterating a belief system where what?s on the outside out weighs what?s on the inside

Ariel Levy is my new hero. BRAVO! It's about time. On the Oprah show, when Pink was looking for beautiful and SMART woman....and was clueless, well, here she is! I thought I was going crazy, I questioned if I was a prude. I am not. If only every woman would read this, if only....Thank you for this book, thankyou for letting me know I am not NUTS!
