What amazes me most about The Great Gatsby is how timeless it is. When I read it, I was prepared for a story steeped in Art Deco, flappers, prohibition, etc. but instead I read a book that could have been written yesterday.

The characters in The Great Gatsby are amazing and the story is one with which we can all connect in one way or another. Really, folks, this may be the greatest American novel. Give it a shot. It's very short so you have only an evening or two to lose.

This is THE American Novel. Come on, it's the Great Gatsby. Beautiful, an amazing economy of words, brilliant. Anyone with any interest in American literature really must read this book. It is absolutely the cornerstone.

The 1920s were roaring with excitement, and this book captures it. Fitzgerald has a writing style that is captivating. Nick Carraway moves to New York from Minnesota, and lives next door to a man named Gatsby who has the most lavish parties. As I was reading this, I wished I could have attended one of these parties with the socialites of New York in the 1920s! Gatsby is in love with another man's wife, Daisy, and enlists Nick's help in arranging meetings, but the fun ends when Daisy's husband begins to realize she's having an affair!
