Publisher Comments:

President Jimmy Carter offers a passionate defense of separation of church and state. He warns that fundamentalists are deliberately blurring the lines between politics and religion.

As a believing Christian, Carter takes on issues that are under fierce debate — women's rights, terrorism, homosexuality, civil liberties, abortion, the death penalty, science and religion, environmental degradation, nuclear arsenals, preemptive war, and America's global image.

About the Author

Jimmy Carter was born in Plains, Georgia, and served as thirty-ninth President of the United States. He is the author of numerous books, including Palestine Peace Not Apartheid, An Hour Before Daylight and Our Endangered Values. He received a "Best Spoken Word" Grammy Award for his recording of Our Endangered Values. All of President Carter's proceeds from this series will go to the Maranatha Baptist Church of Plains, Georgia.

I am not religious but I am a fervent believer in the social justice modeled by Jimmy Carter and Jim Wallis.

I've long admired Jimmy Carter's sense of morality and fairness as well as his amazing intellect. Reading this book gave me more insight into the true costs and meaning of the decisions of the current government.

I ache for Carter when I realize how often he forsees the consequences of a planned policy but despite all of his efforts it goes forward. I understand what is happening at the time but he KNOWS it is going to happen.

We can all learn from his wisdom and his pain.
