My Life as a White Trash Zombieby Diana Rowland
Synopses & Reviews
Kara Gillian is in some seriously deep trouble.
Shes used to summoning supernatural creatures from the demon realm to our world, but now the tables have been turned and shes the one whos been summoned. Kara is the prisoner of yet another demonic lord, but she quickly discovers that shes far more than a mere hostage. Yet waiting for rescue has never been her style, and Kara has no intention of being a pawn in someone elses game.
Theres intrigue to spare as she digs into the origin of the demonic lords and discovers the machinations of humans and demons alike. Kara is shocked to discover that she has her own history in the demon realm, and that the ties between her and the demonic lords Rhyzkahl and Szerain go back farther than she could have ever imagined. But treachery runs rampant among all the lords, and shes going to have to stay sharp in order to keep from being used to further their own agendas. The lords have a secret that dates back to earths ancient history, and it could have devastating repercussions for both worlds.
Yet more than anything else, Karas abilities as a homicide detective will be put to the test—because this time the murder she has to solve is her own.
"An intriguing mystery and a hilarious mix of the horrific and mundane aspects of zombie life open a promising new series from Rowland (Secrets of the Demon). Angel Crawford, a high school dropout on probation for possession of a stolen car, wakes up in a hospital with a confused memory of horrible injuries now mysteriously vanished and an anonymous benefactor setting her up with a job at the local morgue. Angel's problems with her alcoholic father, petty-criminal boyfriend Randy, handsome cop Marcus, and obnoxious co-worker Nick are overshadowed by her new appetite for the brains of the corpses she handles. Then Angel encounters a trio of odd deaths and starts tracking a serial killer with a habit of beheading his victims. Humor and gore are balanced by surprisingly touching moments as Angel tries to turn her (un)life around. (July)" Publishers Weekly Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
Demon summoner Kara Gillian bears the scars of Rhyzkahls treachery, but she refuses to let them slow her down. She and the demonic lord Mzatal have not rested in their efforts to recover Idris—Mzatals summoner protégé who was kidnapped by enemy lords—but now their search has brought them back to Earth.
With the help of FBI agents Ryan Kristoff and Zack Garner, they begin to track down summoners who are working with Rhyzkahl. However, Kara knows Ryans true identity, and questions of loyalty threaten to tear apart this group of allies. When Kara intervenes to help a brilliant young computer expert and his bodyguard after an accidental shooting, she quickly learns that Rhyzkahls machinations run deeper than she could have ever imagined. The search for Idris takes on a desperate edge as their enemies increase in number, and Kara realizes that an old homicide case may hold the key to their success—or their doom.
With the very fabric of the universe at stake, Kara must rely on her skills, wit, and luck to save her friends and her world, yet ancient vows will have to be broken if she is to have any hope.
But the price of breaking those vows may be her own blood.
Our favorite white trash zombie, Angel Crawford, has enough problems of her own, what with dealing with her alcoholic, deadbeat dad, dead bodies at work, issues with her not-quite boyfriend, the zombie mafia, and evil zombie soldiers. Oh, and its raining, and wont let up.
But things get even crazier when a zombie movie starts filming in town. Theres something shady going on with the films backers, and Angel begins to suspect that its not just the plot of the movie that stinks. As if thats not enough, the lead actress recently got into a fight in a local bar, and now part of her sentence is to work in the morgue. Angel has no desire to babysit a spoiled celebrity, but she doesn't appear to have a choice.
Zombies, both real and fake, are roaming the streets, even while it's raining cats and dogs. Soon Angel's dealing with disasters both natural and unnatural, yet in her own unique and undead way, she manages to fit all the pieces--and body parts--together to save herself, her town, and quite possibly the human race.
At least for now.
