About the Author

Natalie McNair-Huff has long been interested in the history of Washington state. She grew up in southwest Washington in Longview, where she was one of the many local residents living under the threat of flooding and more following the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980.

Rob McNair-Huff has also been a long-time history buff interested in Washington state's past. He grew up in Longview and then in Rochester, Washington, where he watched Mt. St. Helens erupt from a distance.

They are the authors of two other books about Washington--Insiders' Guide® to the Olympic Peninsula and Birding Washington. They currently reside in Tacoma, within a short distance of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the resting site of Galloping Gertie.
