This attractive reference book was written for English-speaking elementary-school-level boys and girls who are taking a beginning course in Mandarin Chinese--as well as for Chinese-speaking children learning English. Each entry is presented with its phonetic pronunciation, followed by its translation. Words in Mandarin Chinese are presented with their Chinese characters. Each entry concludes with a brief sample sentence to demonstrate usage. The book is divided into three sections: an English to Chinese dictionary; a Chinese to English dictionary; and a final section giving bilingual entries for telling time, days of the week, months, names of continents and oceans, numbers, and other useful designations. To provide quick reference from one section to the other, each section's page edges are tinted in a different color. Entries in both dictionary sections are enhanced with small, child-friendly cartoon-style color illustrations.
