Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

A milestone of storytelling set in the world of "The Sword of Truth," Debt of Bones is the story of young Abby's struggle to win the aid of the wizard Zedd Zorander, the most important man alive.

Abby is trapped, not only between both sides of the war, but in a mortal conflict between two powerful men. For Zedd, who commands power most men can only imagine, granting Abby's request would mean forsaking his sacred duty. With the storm of the final battle about to break, both Abby and Zedd are caught in a desperate fight to save the life of a child...but neither can escape the shadow of an ancient betrayal.

With time running out, their only choice may be a debt of bones. The world-for Zedd, for Abby, for everyone-will never again be the same.

Discover why millions of readers the world over have elevated Terry Goodkind to the ranks of legend.

Review:

"Teeming with violence, treachery and intrigue." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"The conflict between love and duty forms a central theme in this brief and touching tale of people caught up in events they cannot fully control. Keith Parkinson's pencil illustrations add a delicate touch to the story, highlighting key events in the narrative." Library Journal

Abby comes to to Aydindril looking to see the most powerful wizard in the land. She wants to him fulfill a debt of bones. A powerful link binds the two until the debt is payed, but Zedd refuses. He says he cannot risk the kingdom to save Abby's daughter. Abby is anguished, unable to bear the thought that her little girl will die. A pair of powerful sorceresses offer to try and change his mind, and tell her about Zedd's dark and painful past.

I really enjoyed this book. I have never read any of the author's other books, but was very impressed. The writing was smooth and simple, yet very powerful and I admit I nearly cried at some parts because the emotional pain that the characters were going through was so realistic and sad. Definitely not a cheerful and uplifting book, but very real.
