Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

New York magazine called Nerve "the Web's most intelligent forum for erotica." Now, from the creators of Nerve.com comes an original collection of sexual fiction and nonfiction from some of today's best writers.

Since its online debut in 1997, Nerve has been publishing brazen, titillating,  and intelligent prose and photography. Nerve: Literate Smut highlights some of the webzine's most acclaimed stories and essays by writers such as Norman Mailer, Sallie Tisdale, Rick Moody, Thom Jones, and Dr. Joycelyn Elders, as well as striking photographs by Andres Serrano, Richard Kern, Sylvia Plachy, and others. Nerve's founders frame the texts and photos with original and revealing essays on the many sides of sex--from shame and habits to taboos, debauchery, and, of course, love.  This volume demonstrates why Nerve is more than the latest web phenomenon--it's a bold new sexual sensibility and a precocious force in American culture.

Synopsis:

The founders of "Nerve", the celebrated literary webzine devoted entirely to sex, present an original collection of provocative fiction, essays, and photographs from today's most acclaimed writers, thinkers, and artists. 35 photos.

Synopsis:

Last June, on the same day the Supreme Court toppled the Communications Decency Act, Genevieve Field and Rufus Griscom launched nervemag.com. This fresh, smart webzine, which explores all aspects of sexuality, racked up 6 million page views in its first month and is now the most heavily trafficked online original magazine. Nerve: Literate Smut collects 35 selections from the best of Nerve's fiction and nonfiction, showcasing an impressive roster of voices including Norman Mailer on ethics and pornography, Dr. Jocelyn Elders on masturbation, Quentin Crisp on celibacy, Lucy Grealy on the politics of physical attraction, and steamy love stories from Robert Olen Butler, Elissa Wald, and many others.

With smart, titillating commentary from Nerve's creators, cutting-edge design, and uncensored photographs by such artists as Richard Kern and Andres Serrano, Nerve: Literate Smut is a down-and-dirty yet sophisticated tour of the human sexual experience.
