Folk Tales from Chile

Folk Tales from Chile Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

An illustrated collection of fifteen traditional Chilean tales that "represent a fusion...of the Old World culture of the Spanish soldier and priest and the native Indian culture of ancient Chile".

Synopsis:

This selection of 15 tales gives a taste of the variety of Chile's rich folklore. There is a story of the spirit who lived in a volcano and kept his daughter imprisoned in the mountain, guarded by a devoted dwarf; there are domestic tales with luck favoring the poor and simple, and tales which tell how poppies first appeared in the cornfields and how the Big Stone in Lake Llanquihue came to be there. Fifteen illustrations accompany the text. These beautifully told tales create an air of mystery and enchantment around the native Indians to whom this rich world belongs.
