Raistlin casts a magical spell to open the Portal to the Abyss where he will battle the Dark Queen. At the same instant his brother Caramon operates a magical time traveling device that throws Caramon and Tasslehoff into an unexpected place. At the end of the novel, Caramon must close the Portal so Takhisis will not enter the world, but in doing so he seals his brother in the Abyss forever.
