Publisher Comments:

"It's a secret garden, and I'm the only one in the world who wants it to be alive." After the death of her parents, Mary Lennox is brought from India to England to live in her uncle's remote country house on the Yorkshire moors. Mary is a difficult, unhappy child until one day she discovers a hidden, neglected garden. As she learns how to tend the garden and make things grow, her life — and the lives of those around her — begins to change in unforeseen ways. This Young Classic edition explores the real world a garden as it changes through the seasons. Photography sets the scene without intruding on the story, and brings The Secret Garden to life for a new generation of children.

About the Author

Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was born in Manchester, England. After emigrating with her family to the US, she began to write plays and novels, including the children's classics Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess. The Secret Garden was published in 1911, and has been described as one of the most satisfying children's books ever written. Shona McKellar has written and edited many children's books, and her titles for DK Publishing include an abridgment of A Christmas Carol. Her sensitive adaptation of The Secret Garden retains the charm of the original. Tony Kerins earned a degree in graphic design from Manchester Polytechnic and then studied illustration at the Royal College of Art in London. He has illustrated many children's books, and his delightful watercolors capture the enchanting world of The Secret Garden.
