Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

- The combination of superlative illustrations and specially commissioned essays by leading writers familiar with the artist and his work, make this one of the most authoritative and comprehensive publications on Goldsworthy.
- The book features an array of Goldsworthy's ephemeral sculptures and also his creation of such majestic earthworks as Seven Spires.
- This edition is a bargain, considering it contains all of the original full-color photos and all the text from the large edition, but costs much less.
- Interest in Goldsworthy remains strong--his first book A Collaboration With Nature (1991) is now in its thirteenth printing and has sold more than 100,000 copies. This book sold out in its first edition (1993).
- The paperback edition will supplant the out-of-print hardcover. It will feature a new jacket cover in a fresh, appealing, and affordable format.
- The accompanying text is both fascinating an substantial, including critical and descriptive essays, copious quotations from the artist himself, and three interviews.
- This paperback edition is being released at the same time as Goldsworthy's forthcoming new book, Passage. The two make a strong pair.

Book News Annotation:

Reprinted from the 1990 edition, this volume is filled with full-page color plates of the photographs Goldsworthy makes of his purposely ephemeral artworks, as well as some of his drawings and proposals. Projects created between 1976- 1990 are included, created in both indoor and outdoor settings in the UK, Japan, and Canada. The text accompanying each set of photographs features Goldsworthy's own commentary on the project or theme, as well as a description of the project and its reception by other writers. A catalogue raisonne of the photographs, bibliography, 1987 interview with John Fowles, and chronology of the artist's career are included. Not indexed.
