Publisher Comments:

Bawdy, joyous, messy, hysterically funny, and guaranteed to offendregardless of religion, race, national origin, sexual orientation, or professionBetween the Bridge and the River is the debut novel by Craig Ferguson, host of CBS's The Late Late Show. Two childhood friends from Scotland and two illegitimate half-brothers from the American South suffer and enjoy all manner of bizarre experiences which, as it turns out, are somehow interconnectedand, surprisingly enough, meaningful. An eclectic cast of characters includes Carl Jung, Fatty Arbuckle, Virgil, Marat, Socrates, and Tony Randall. Love, greed, hope, revenge, organized religion, and Hollywood are alternately tickled and throttled. Impossible to summarize and impossible to stop reading, this is a romantic comic odyssey that actually deliversand rewards.

Synopsis:

A gallery of characters make their way through the underbelly of the entertainment industry toward redemption in this exhilarating debut novel from the host of "The Late Late Show." Ferguson pokes good-natured fun at the media, pop culture, religion, and, of course, his native Scotland.

a great romp! if you love a plot that ranges far and wide, picks up characters willy-nilly and soars up and back again with roller coaster breathlessness, this is for you. I was flabbergasted by all the "loose ends" (which end up very tidy, indeed).
enjoy

I don't read much fiction, but I was forced to read Friday Night Knitting Club for work. Couldn't wait for her to die. I found this book afterward as a palate cleanser. I'm usually very good at seeing the metaphors, symbols, word play in novels and find most of it contrived, which is why I don't read much fiction. But it took me forever to recognize where between the bridge and the river is and all through the book I thoroughly enjoyed everything in it.

Craig Ferguson surprised me -- I was prepared to find his novel another example of a Hollywood star capitalizing on fame and writing garbage. What a shocker!! I was entralled and read this book in 24 hours -- devoured it and wrapped myself up in the story and the characters. There is certainly some parody here, but it is ultimately about a spiritual journey and awakening, but it is both touching and fraught with the humor: not an easy feat. It's great because it's so unexpected.
