About the Author

Nassim Nicholas Taleb is the founder of Empirica Capital LLC, a crisis-hunting hedge fund operator, and a fellow at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of New York University. He has held a variety of derivative trading positions in New York and London and worked as an independent floor trader in Chicago. Taleb was inducted in February 2001 in the Derivatives Strategy Hall of Fame.

You might be put off by Taleb's credentials -- he is a PhD Mathematician specializing in probability and a trader of derivatives, worlds beyond our intuitive understanding that can be frustratingly inaccessible. But this is not a textbook; it reads like a conversation, one with an extremely intelligent, curious, and engaging person. You will not be taking any chances in dedicating time to read this book.
