About the Author

Marcos Bretón is a senior writer at the Sacramento Bee and is a past winner of the Guillermo Martinez-Marquez Award given by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. José Luis Villegas is a staff photographer for the Sacramento Bee and a two-time winner of the Grand Prize for Photography, also awarded by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
