Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

An important and stimulating architecture book on the momentous urban and town planning project in the city center of Istanbul. The Zorlu Center, a dynamic and impressive gateway being built in Istanbul, will redefine the experience of contemporary downtown urban living. The mixed-use project, with wide public spaces and grand-scale buildings, including a 3,050-person-capacity Performance Arts Center, is the center of a twenty-first-century modern city without compromising the outstanding universal values of Istanbul. A Vision in Architecture recognizes all of the thirteen finalists for the Zorlu Center Architecture and Urban Design competition, highlighting their contributions. The competition brought in 117 firms, including Arquitectonica from Miami, Mario Botta from Switzerland, Coop Himmelb(l)au from Austria, and Vittorio Gregotti from Italy. The winners, Tabanlioglu Project and EAA Joint Venture Group, are developing the project. Süha Özkans text focuses on the architectural competition, the Zorlu Center, the competitors, and their projects.
