The Nevada Desertby Sessions S Wheeler
Synopses & Reviews
Distributed by the University of Nebraska Press for Caxton Press
As late as the end of the first quarter of the nineteenth century it was still a land of mystery-uncharted, unexplored. With the exception of the Arctic, it was a part of the only large area of the North American continent which the white man had not penetrated. It was the Nevada Desert. Sessions S. Wheeler gives us its story.
Professional biologist and conservationist Sessions Wheeler begins with the prehistory and geology of the desert regions and brings the reader to present day. He provides modern sightseeing "trail drivers" with information on the historical and recreational areas.
Old journals, microfilm copies of early newspapers, Indian Affairs and military reports, and the memories of living persons are compiled to form an excellent survey of the history of the people, animals and geography of the Nevada desert.
About the Author
Sessions S. Wheeler was a widely known outdoorsman, conservationist, teacher and western writer who spent much of his gree time in the environment he most enjoyed and best understood, the Great Basin Desert.
