Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Spend a delightful evening enthralled by the true and captivating experiences of this city lady who at age 80 spent one full year on her mountain mining claim and faced the challenges of a vastly different life.

Synopsis:

This is our most popular title as far as accumulating files of fan letters. Stella Patterson may have been over 80 when she wrote this book, but like Grandma Moses, she most certainly had a lot of talent! Told by her doctor she had "young legs, " this city lady at age 80 vowed to spend one full year on her remote mountain mining claim for solitude to write. Instead came the challenges of this vastly different life: frightening storms, homesickness, wild animals — but she did stick to her vow!

At the age of 53, having just returned from the sea, a journey in and of itself, I thought most of my great adventures were behind me, and then I stummbled across this book at one of the few little grocery stores you come across while driving down along the Klamath River. I was reminded that my adventures were far from over. But more importantly, above and beyond this woman's courage and strength, were her words of wisdom found between the covers of this book. "Vicki (her dog)," I said to her, "you know what I need. Something to love me that asks no questions, that doesn't know or care if I am old or young, good-natured or ill-tempered, well-dressed or slovenly, sad or gay, but just me, an old woman who wants to be loved for what she is---right now."

Beautifully written. Inspiring.
