This is the first in a planned five-volume work, each of which will focus on one of five South Slavic literatures (Croatian, Macedonian, Serbian, Slovene, and Bulgarian). Cooper (Indiana U.) presents a collection of poems, short stories, and excerpts from novels by 24 Slovene authors, from the 16th to 20th centuries. Following a brief introductory overview of Slovene literature by Cooper, the text features individual chapters chronologically-ordered by birth year of each author. Each chapter includes a short biography of the author, followed by a selection of works. The Slovene text and English translation appear on facing pages. No subject index.
