Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The young physician Peter Blood, wrongly convicted of treason during the reign of King James II, is exiled from England and sold into slavery in Jamaica. He escapes and becomes a pirate. Later he returns to England, joining the Royal Navy in its efforts against France. Captain Blood, filmed in 1935, was Errol Flynn's first swashbuckler, his first pairing with Olivia de Havilland and Basil Rathbone, and the film that made him a star. This is the only paperback edition in print.

Synopsis:

The adventurous life of Peter Blood, physician, slave, pirate, and navy captain. The film starred Errol Flynn.

About the Author

Rafael Sabatini was born in Italy in 1875 of a British mother and Italian father. Both parents had careers as opera singers and teachers. He settled in England in his late teens, and by the age of 27 had written his first novel. English was his sixth language, but it was the language which he would devote the rest of his career. Sabatini achieved his greatest success with swashbuckling novels such as Scaramouche, The Sea Hawk, and Captain Blood. He authored dozens of novels, a number of histories, and even a play. He died in Switzerland in 1950.
