Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Few people know that Mark Twain wrote a major work on St. Joan of Arc. Still fewer know that he considered it not only his most important but also his best work, spending 12 years in research and many months in France doing archival research. A book to inform and inspire its readers.

I just finished reading 'Joan' and was facinated.
This book has an entirely different flavor than
Twain's other works. I have always thought of him as
a cynical iconoclast, but in Joan he appears to have
a great respect for Joan of Arc's personal faith and
piety. He creates an almost otherworldy portrait
of this young girl from the country who felt she was
raised up by the Hand of God to save France. Even
though unlettered, she displayed and uncommon ability
to express herself. She was an unparalleled military
tactician, a consumate judge of character and a
tireless defender of the cause of France. If Twain's
book is to be beleived, she was under the protection
of God and constantly received his guidances therough
her voices which were angel representatives.
If you expect another 'Huckleberry Finn' you'll be sorely
disappointed, but if you are ready for a magnificent
adventure, I'd reccomend Mark Twain Joan of Arc
as a great read.
