Terribly interesting stories, written for a terribly interesting contest! Many of them are from now well-known explorers and settlers, although we may know them as place names, street names, or almost legends. Written largely in a conversational style, sometimes a bit pompous--"I was the first, the biggest and the best", these stories are wonderful.
