Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Designing, building or modifying motorcycles for racing is a very time consuming and expensive process. Success depends on numerous factors, many of which are rarely discussed in detail. In this unique book, the author looks at engine characteristics, gearing, geometry, aerodynamics and suspension, all of which are crucial to performance. Important formulae and dimensions are duplicated in both metric and Imperial units of measure. Although the book is primarily written for engineers, the clear style and layout will appeal to non-specialists. A second volume will cover materials and practical construction techniques.

There is a ton of info here, very technical, VERY well presented. An incredible number of formulas and algorithms, in an easy to understand presentation. Riders, builders, everyone should read this.

John Bradley's book on "The Racing Motorcycle" is outstanding. I cannot recommend it too highly to anyone interested in mastering the art of riding a machine with two wheels on a road course. It is the racer's perfect companion to both Gaetano Cocco's "Motorcycle Design and Technology" and Vittore Cossalter's more technical "Motorcycle Dynamics", both of which look at motorcycle perfomance from an engineer's perspective. All three books are excellent resources for anyone involved in motorcycle performance at the limit.
