Holly Scudero, November 25, 2013 (view all comments by Holly Scudero)
Raising a child inspires most parents to read volume upon volume for advice on how to do it “right,” and feeding the baby is no different. Nearly every baby book in existence covers this topic, and there are numerous books devoted entirely to it; one of the more well known and loved, “Super Baby Food” by Ruth Yaron, has recently been released as a new, freshly-updated third edition. Yaron wanted only the best for her own children, and she put extensive research into creating her own system that would ensure that they grew up healthy and strong. “Super Baby Food” details that system, giving eager parents the knowledge they need to make “traditional” healthy baby food at home, from starter foods for the beginning eater to ideas for feeding toddlers and beyond. (Note that if you are not interested in going the standard route of starting baby on grain-based cereals and smoothly pureed produce, you will likely want to look elsewhere for information.) She teaches you how to prepare fruits and vegetables, gives ideas for extras you can add for an health boost, and even provides primers in nutrition and kitchen safety. There are even brief sections on making your own household goods and ideas for living frugally. This book is chock full of great information, and most parents (or parents-to-be) will love having a well-thumbed copy on their bookshelf.
