Editor, Matt Love, describes this anthology as an old school mix tape of Oregon stories. I think that is an apt description. There are Oregon favorites, new surprises and a clunker here or there. If you're an Oregonian or want to know more about what makes them tick then take a look at this book. I particularly liked "Give me the damn letter", and "The Mayor's Ball", "Next year I think I will train", and "Stomping Ground".

Editor Matt Love has given us a book that, for one thing, provides excellent depictions of pre-boomtime Oregon. One gets a real sense of life in this state prior to the mid-1970s when the timber economy was still humming along.

From the speeches of iconic Governor Tom McCall to Ralph Friedman's compelling essay on the self-publication of his celebrated book "Oregon for the Curious" and the account of the filming of "Sometimes a Great Notion" on the central coast, the book takes us newcomers back to what it was like before a lot of us got here.

Just think of how good life here is now, then double it.

The Collective Psyche of Oregon. If you're a native Oregonian, this book will confirm what you've always known: Oregonians know how to live. If you're a transplant, this book will validate your choice of homeland. If you're an ex-patriot, this book will make you so homesick, you'll have to move back. If you're a non-resident, you'll be faced with a choice: avoid Oregon for the rest of your life lest you too succumb to its seductive powers, or pack your bags for a move to a new state of mind.
