When children awake, the elf has returned from the North Pole and can be found hiding in a different location. This activity allows The Elf on the Shelf to become a delightful hide-and-seek game. We got this as a gift a couple of years ago and my daughter looks forward to it every Christmas. We (she) named ours Dan and every day she looks to see what "Dan" has been up to over night. Her little girl "naughtiness" goes way down, too, knowing we have a "messenger to Santa" hanging out in our living room.
