This book is an awesome resource for people who want to be more self-sufficient/self-reliant and environmentally sound. Lots of recipes for making cleaning products, laundry soap, balms, salves and more using a lot of stuff that you likely already have at home! It also touches on starting a garden. I refer to this book all the time and I actually feel like I am doing my part to make the environment a little healthier all while saving a little money by not having to by expensive, harsh cleaning products at the store.

This book is amazingly helpful for anyone looking to live more simply. Aside from its innate usefulness, Make Your Place absolutely oozes charm. Raleigh's handwritten text and sweet illustrations are simply stunning. The cover is so gorgeous that I can't bring myself to hide this book away on the shelf. I always have it on display somewhere in my house.

Plus, Raleigh's recipes for tinctures, salves and all-natural cleaning products are easy to follow. Within days of picking up the book in-store at Powell's, I whipped up three of her cleaning product recipes and gave them as a DIY Mother's Day Gift. Needless to say, my mom adored them--so much so that she asked me to refill all of the bottles with Raleigh's concoctions again this year.

As if I weren't already a steadfast member of the author's fan club after picking up Make Your Place, Raleigh in real life is just as sweet and charming as she seems in the book. When I emailed her with a question about the best bottling methods for the cleaning products she writes about, she responded promptly with some helpful ideas. I will be giving this book as a gift to friends and family for many, many years to come.

This book is really beautiful, comprehensive, and well-written - not to mention, quite charming. I would love the content even if its text were not handwritten and adorned with fabulous illustration - but it is!

However, Powells.com - you should fix your listing, because the author's last name is Briggs, not Brigg. But that is it.
