Synopses & Reviews

Book News Annotation:

With lively, popular text informed by solid research, Sullivan examines all the usual suspects: tsunamis, quakes, volcanoes, flash floods, seasonal floods (frequent in this state), wind, slides and forest fires. His description of the ice age (Bretz) floods is particularly good (& concise). The book contains 160 photos and 16 maps. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Synopsis:

This informative, entertaining book tells the stories of Oregon's greatest floods, fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions — and then analyzes the cycles behind these events in order to help predict and prepare for future natural disasters. A final, fictional chapter takes a look at what might happen when a major earthquake and tsunami next strike Oregon's coast.

Picked this up from the author at the fair. I was not impressed but wanted to support my local writers. I learned so much! I have whipped this book out so many times a family get togethers and left it on the coffee table for visitors, not to mention its so well cited that any kid doing a report would find more information than they could ever use. Bonus- Well written.
