Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Anya could really use a friend. But her new BFF isnt kidding about the “forever” part . . .

Of all the things Anya expected to find at the bottom of an old well, a new friend was not one of them. Especially not a new friend whos been dead for a century.

Falling down a well is bad enough, but Anyas normal life might actually be worse. Shes embarrassed by her family, self-conscious about her body, and shes pretty much given up on fitting in at school. A new friend—even a ghost—is just what she needs.

Or so she thinks.

Spooky, sardonic, and secretly sincere, Anyas Ghost is a wonderfully entertaining debut graphic novel from author/artist Vera Brosgol.

I haven't read a graphic novel in a few months. I picked up Anya's Ghost after hearing glowing reviews from friends. I figured that if this many people think it's great, there has to be something to it. Not wanting to be left out, I picked up at copy. I am so glad I did. I read this book one night, it is fairly short and a quick read. I found the story to be different then what I was expecting to find. I started to figure out the "twist" fairly early on, which is rare for me. However, I have spoken with others who did't see it coming.
I loved reading the story and seeing how Anya changed and grew in such a short period of time. I loved the fact that Anya is a first generation Russian immigrant, that isn't something I have ever found before in a book and I felt like it added a lot to the story.

I loved the colors that were used blacks, whites and purples it gave it a little something extra that was very enjoyable.
