Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Hellblazer continues to be the last word in edgy and intelligent supernatural suspense. In Highwater, John Constantine concludes arduous trek across America and answers the burning questions that put him on the road in the first place. Trying to make amends with the ex-girlfriend he wronged, and clear his name for the murder he was accused of, Constantine find his ex - and himself - mixed up with a variety of unsavory characters, including white supremacists, gun dealers and corrupt gangsters. Constantine also learns why he's been stalked by the mysterious Agent Turro, and who the dark figure is that has been controlling everything behind the scenes. Suggested for Mature Readers.

If you go by the Amazon.com reviews, this collection seems to be fairly universally disliked. I can kind of see why; Azzarello does some very difficult things with the character, particularly in the final story arc in this collection, and I feel like I'm going to have to re-read this a couple of times to really grasp what he's up to. I don't, however, think it's nearly as bad as the reviews I read suggest; in fact, I think it's quite good and quite daring. I described it to a friend as "deeply weird," which is probably appropriate.
