Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In ancient China during the Han Dynasty, a young slave toils away in a castle for a cruel master. The nameless orphan is hopeless and lonely, until, in a moment of startling bravery, she comes to the aide of an aging dragon. With this heroic act, the orphan discovers her destiny as a Dragon Keeper, a role that will change the course of her life. Together the novice Dragon Keeper and the elderly dragon begin a dangerous journey across China in order to protect a mysterious stone that is vital to the dragon's legacy. While being pursued by dragon hunters and other villains, the pair form a unique bond as they strive to complete their quest.

Review:

"[T]he dramatic plot and competently crafted writing make this a good choice for voracious readers of fantasy....The ending, though satisfying, makes way for a sequel." School Library Journal

Review:

"Though Wilkinson barely sketches in the historical setting, and mishandles the plot...she throws an engrossing barrage of challenges and reversals of fortune at her trio of well-drawn travelers, and all three acquit themselves well." Kirkus Reviews

Synopsis:

In the time of the Han Dynasty in ancient China, the last remaining dragon is in danger of being killed by the cruel Emperor. A nameless orphan with no past and an uncertain future becomes his unlikely ally. The young orphan soon discovers that it is her destiny to protect the aging dragon and his mysterious purple stone. Chased by an evil dragon hunter and a powerful sorcerer, their adventure is not easy. Each must learn to help and understand the other if they are to survive. To succeed in her task, the young orphan must reach deep within herself to find courage she never knew existed. No longer can she be the timid, shy orphan she once was. She is now the one, true Dragon Keeper.

Synopsis:

Nominated for the Children's Book Council of Australia Awards short list, this novel tells a story of the magical and majestic world of dragons, the power of believing in oneself, and the meaning of courage.
