Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Fifteen years ago: A teenage girl is viciously assaulted as she picks flowers in a field one night in midsummer. The crime is never reported.

Present day: A man with no identification on his person is killed in a hit-and-run. He is never reported missing. Across the city, a priest and his wife are found dead in an apparent suicide.

Fredrika Bergman is assigned to the case. What she and her colleagues discover is that a sinister evil, the roots of which date back decades, is the link behind these seemingly unrelated crimes. There’s a reason why none of them were ever reported, and it has to do with a shocking and horrendous cover-up unlike anything Fredrika could have possibly imagined.

Skillfully crafted and highly suspenseful, Silenced is a gripping thriller in which the consequences of past tragedies continue to haunt the present, reaching further and deeper than anyone ever expected.

Review:

"Early in Ohlsson's deftly plotted second Fredrika Bergman mystery (after 2012's Unwanted), a Stockholm vicar and his cantor wife are found dead in their bedroom, an apparent murder-suicide, but no one close to the couple believes that Jakob Ahlbin would have shot his wife with a hunting pistol and then turned the gun on himself. Bergman and her colleagues in the Stockholm police's Criminal Investigation Division begin to doubt the murder-suicide theory, even though Ahlbin, a vocal supporter of immigrant rights, suffered from depression and was despondent over his older daughter's recent death from a heroin overdose. Meanwhile, a hit-and-run accident turns into a homicide, and other bodies pile up. Could these deaths be connected to the vicar's murder? The many separate stories and viewpoints make for a sluggish start, but Ohlsson expertly pulls all the pieces together to ultimately form an intricate whole. Agent: Niclas Salomonsson, Salomonsson Agency." Publishers Weekly Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

Synopsis:

From the winner of the 2012 Stabilo Prize for Best Crime Writer of Southern Sweden, comes the second installment of the Frederika Bergman crime series.

A teenage girl was assaulted and raped on a midsummer’s eve fifteen years ago. Cut to present: a man is killed in a hit and run. He has no identification on him and is not reported missing. The same day, a priest and his wife are found dead in an apparent suicide.
