About the Author

Richard W. Hartlage was the director/curator of the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden in Seattle. He lectures widely and writes on gardening topics for such periodicals as Horticulture, Pacific Horticulture, Fine Gardening, and Rebecca's Garden. His photographs appear in a number of publications, including the Pacific Northwest Gardener's Guide Calendar.
