Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

An astonishing treatise that rethinks the roots of our society, In Search of the Lost Feminine explains the mysterious disappearance of ancient cultures in which women and the environment were at the center, a loss that has dramatically influenced 3,500 years of Western history. Delving into the historical questions posed by the best seller The Da Vinci Code, Craig Barnes traces the archeological and societal forces that shaped our current culture of misogyny and glorification of war, with surprising revelations at every turn.

Book News Annotation:

Barnes, formerly a lawyer who championed women's rights and environmental causes, investigates the disappearance of ancient cultures that valued women and the environment, a loss that has shaped 3,500 years of Western history. Beginning with the Minoan culture, he traces the archaeological and social forces that led to the present culture of misogyny and glorification of war.

Minoan women knew how to live well. We have much to learn from them. I wonder if they had any program of population control. They had to have male partners but how many children were enough.
