Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Clematis are, without a doubt, one of the most popular garden plants, with a large number of species in existence and thousands of hybrids developed. The flowers are capable of creating spectacular displays over many months, from early to late summer. Between the abundant species and hybrids, almost every color is represented.

Clematis: a Care Manual is tailored to meet the needs of both the first-time owner and the more experienced grower. It explains, in detail, all the techniques needed to keep a clematis in good shape.

Clear, authoritative text and superb step-by-step photographs and illustrations will help even the most nervous newcomer grow clematis with confidence.

About the Author

Dr. Mary K. Toomey is a trained biologist, botanist, entomologist, and soil ecologist. She has worked as a university lecturer and is the author of a number of books on biology. Passionately in love with gardening from her childhood days, she has been growing and collecting clematis for well over 30 years.

Dr. Toomey is currently the editor of The Clematis, the journal of the British Clematis Society and lectures widely on clematis, gardens and gardening. She is also an accomplished garden photographer and contributes to gardening journals and magazines.

She lives and gardens in Dublin and divides her leisure time between the care of clematis and other plants in her own garden and visits to her clematis collections growing in borrowed spaces in her friends' gardens.
