I Will Not Die an Unlived Life: Reclaiming Purpose and Passionby Dawna Markova
Synopses & Reviews
In I Will Not Die an Unlived Life, this powerful writer expands on the ideas that inspired the poem for the first time.
?I?m not sure I know exactly what passion is,? writes the author, ?but I do know what it does for us. I know that it breaks us open until there is no partition between our bodies and the body of the world. I know it acts on us until something takes root inside and insists on growing. I usually forget that it begins as a reaching down into the dark as well as up and out toward the light.?
I Will Not Die an Unlived Life takes us through five stages of coming to live ?on purpose,? each one drawing the world closer to our hearts so that we may experience more fully the energy of life.
Several years ago, faced with a life-threatening disease, Markova wrote a poem that appeared in her book, The Art of the Possible. Soon the poem took off on its own?Conari Press was inundated by requests for reprints, it appeared on the cover of a bestselling journal, and a calligraphic version won an art prize in Canada. At a women?s conference in London, Markova met a freedom fighter from South Africa who had been using it in her work to inspire black women to claim their own lives.
When Dawn Markova was diagnosed with cancer, instead of lying down to die she delved into a search for meaning and a higher purpose for her life. I Will Not Die an Unlived Life is a collection of stories of Markova's own journey to uncover her purpose and make her life matter, and it has been inspiring readers to do the same for more than 14 years.

From the Foreword by Justine and Michael Toms, cofounders of New Dimensions Broadcasting Network:
Never have the words 'slow down' been so desperately needed as they are now. Markova asks brilliant questions as she gently challenges us to exit the fast lane and move into the slow river of wonder, which summons us to our true passion. She catches our logical minds and prompts us to remember, 'Why are we here?' She stimulates us to ask essential questions, have more conversations, and tell more stories. She speaks the language of poetry, questions, story-telling, and deep reflection.
In I Will Not Die an Unlived Life, one of the most charismatic teachers and thinkers of today speaks from her heart. Twenty years ago, faced with a life-threatening illness, Dawna Markova began a journey of rediscovery. This book follows her path to finding deeper meaning in life. As she points out, people can continue to feel powerless and live habitual lives - or they can make the choice to follow their passion. In a similar way to A Gift from the Sea, the readers of this book are invited to accompany me on a journey to come to know more intimately the value and purpose of their lives. - Dawna Markova
