Publisher Comments:

Five hundred stunning duotone photographs showcase the finest, most majestic, and interesting examples of architecture in one of the world's most beloved cities

The greatest buildings, monuments, and structures of London come to life in these inspiring, neighborhood-by-neighborhood photographic tours. Each building is featured in a rich, fine-resolution duotone photograph. Information including the building's name, its address and location, and year of completion or renovation is included underneath the image. A brief description of each building, which highlights its distinctive features and places it in historical context, is included at the back of the book.

Book News Annotation:

The 500 b&w photographs collected in this architecture guide are organized by postal code and captioned with the building's street, year of construction, and architect. Where the building has no formal name, the author invents one. Brief descriptions in the back of the book summarize each building's history. The buildings depicted in the medium-sized photographs are representative of what one would expect to find in any large European city. Originally published in 2006. There are many good books on the subject of London architecture. This one has all the descriptions but with absolutely beautiful black and white photographs. The photographer must have got out of bed early to get these shots that have great early morning light and are clear of traffic and people getting in the way of seeing the buildings. I wish a larger format version could be available as a coffee table book to better show off these fine photographs.
