The rule for altering books is that there ARE no rules. That's what makes it so fun! Whatever you want to try, whatever subject or theme, whatever line of interest you have, it can be applied with this art. This is an awesome book! Lots of great projects that get your creative juices flowing and make you want to dig around in the garage or basement boxes (you have not seen or touched for who knows how long) for things to alter. Better yet, create shock and awe by altering something new. I love getting used books or using ones the kids have outgrown, and doing projects with them. You will be absolutely amazed at how creative children can be with this art form, and how much they love the fact that they have permission to write, paint, glue, fold, and cut into a book (you just have to make it clear to them that only CERTAIN books should be altered. In fact, one of the first and best known examples of altered books (at least in this day and age..the technique has been around for centuries) was the result of a teacher having her class recycle library books that were going to be destroyed. The results were so spectacular, they were returned to the library to be loaned out as ALTERED Library books, and everyone loved them!
Essentially this particular one is more for the older crowd who seriously love this art form, but the basics are there for anyone to do if they can read, or someone else can show them. Anyone can do it, and it's a blast!
