Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Since its original publication in 1977, this influential and enormously popular cookbook has been at the forefront of the revolution in American eating habits. MOOSEWOOD was listed by the New York Times as one of the top ten best-selling cookbooks of all time, and no wonder. With her sophisticated, easy-to-prepare vegetarian recipes, charming pen-and-ink drawings, hand lettering, and conversational tone, Mollie introduced millions to a more healthful, natural way of cooking. This new edition‚Aia companion volume to her upcoming TV series based on MOOSEWOOD and ENCHANTED BROCCOLI‚Aipreserves the major revisions and additions that Mollie made in 1992, adding 5 new recipes from Mollie's current repertoire and 16 pages of beautiful color food photography featuring dishes prepared on the TV show. We know you've seen MOOSEWOOD before, but we promise you've never seen it quite like this

‚AuThe book's unpretentious feel . . . was suited to its era but over the years has lost none of its appeal. It's one cookbook that will surely continue to improve with age.‚Au‚AiSaveur

Any cookbook writer who can keep a busy parent and professional up and smiling while making vegetarian chili at 2 a.m. deserves a medal. Mollie Katzen is that writer: her recipes are smart, accessible, and truly humorous. Whether you're looking to feed a small army or impress an intimate gathering, the Moosewood cookbooks are the right way to entertain with deliciously satisfying vegetarian fare.

Rachel Oftedahl, January 4, 2007 (view all comments by Rachel Oftedahl)
I was raised with my mother cooking from the original Moosewood cookbook, and I remember loving everything, especially the Hungariain Mushroom Soup. The new version has updated a few things that make everything even tastier, and while I was initially a little disturbed that they "defatted" some of the recipes, it was all redeemed by the fact that they left the banana bread recipe alone. And you will not find a finer banana bread recipe.
