Synopses & Reviews
It is clear that Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) is the future of development from Microsoft's perspective. We agree. Development is no longer a personal pursuit by one developer in a darkened room; it is a collective effort by a team of peers. VSTS supports this broader vision by providing a complete collaboration platform for the entire project team. VSTS takes a services-oriented approach leveraging Windows Sharepoint Services and SQL Server Business Intelligence Suite. Additionally, VSTS brings the lifecycle to life by making it part of the integrated suite.
This book will guide you through the entire breadth of VSTS. If you are a stakeholder, you have a portal that gives you instant access to project documents, status, and performance indicators. If you are primarily a project manager, you will learn how create, manage, and assess the team performance. As VSTS is integrated with Microsoft Office, you can quickly assign tasks and gather work status. With reporting from the data warehouse you get real-time view of all project metrics. If you are a developer, you will learn how to write higher-quality code, ensure that the code works, and that it performs well.
For those seeking to use test-driven development, VSTS is the tool for you. If you?re an architect, there is a new set of domain-specific modeling tools that makes it easy to visualize systems, determine application relationships, and deploy into a logical datacenter. For testers, Microsoft's new suite of test tools provides a powerful web testing environment with virtually unlimited extensibility. In addition, the new load tools allow you to perform world-class scalability testing.
Even if you are just considering adopting VSTS, you will be provided with a comprehensive overview. Further, you will be able to deep-dive into any area with detailed descriptions, samples and walk-throughs. Roll up your sleeves and get ready for a new way of developing solutions
Book News Annotation:
This introduction to the Microsoft Visual Studio Team System product demonstrates how to use the Team Foundation version control and build tools, project portal, work item tracking, and reporting services. The authors, who work for Boeing, describe the application, system, logical datacenter, deployment, and class designers for software architects and developers, and discuss the resources for testing the performance of web applications and services. Jeff Levinson was born and raised in Tarzana, California (San Fernando Valley). He started developing in BASIC on the Apple II computer and Commodore-64 as a hobby at the age of 7. Levinson attended San Diego State University, and after college he turned to his hobby of programming in order to make a living. He currently works for Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the Business Systems division and has contracted for Motorola and U.S. Borax. He has taught programming at San Diego State University in the continuing education program and currently teaches part time at Bellevue Community College in Washington. In his spare time, you can find him on the golf course — or, more accurately, in the woods just off the golf course, looking for his ball.
Arriving just in time to pave the way for exploring the brand-new Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) technology, this book will help project heads and developers work more efficiently when creating enterprise-level applications. Levinson and Nelson have a proven track record and share their expertise to help readers grasp complexities of this new software and to maximize potential.
The new Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) technology will help you project heads and developers work more efficiently when creating enterprise-level applications. Unlike many other products, VSTS is designed to work across the whole of the project's life cycle. As a result, many applications are included within the system, including a suite of modeling tools, a logical operations manager, a source-code control and versioning system, and build, unit and load testing software.
