Shirahime-Syo: Snow Goddess Talesby Clamp
Synopses & Reviews
Legends say that when it snows, it is because the snow princess is crying. From CLAMP, creators of Chobits and Cardcaptor Sakura, comes a collection of five tragic tales, all connected by the bond of snow. Shirahime-syo is CLAMP's tribute to traditional Japanese form and storytelling. Featuring luscious watercolors and gentle brushstrokes, it is a beautiful departure from CLAMP's usual fare. Discover for yourself the mystery behind the snow...
About the Author
What is CLAMP?
CLAMP is the four-woman manga studio that creates the world's most popular manga. For the past 15 years they have worked non-stop, creating everything from the adorable shojo (girls comic) hit Cardcaptor Sakura, to the dark and brooding Tokyo Babylon, to the sci-fi romantic comedy Chobits. Currently they are working on four series: Legal Drug, X, Tsubasa: Resevoir Chronicle and xxxHolic. The group also has a close relationship with anime studio Madhouse, which has adapted most of CLAMP's manga into equally successful anime.
2004 marks the team's 15th anniversary, and to celebrate they are working on a retrospective collection called CLAMP no Kiseki, available from TOKYOPOP in 2005.
Shirahime-Syo was first published as a single-volume manga compilation in Japan in 1992 by Asuka Comics DX. It comprises three fantasy folk tales revolving around the Snow Goddess (Shirahime-Syo), whose tears are said to create snow.
This anthology is a must-have for any CLAMP enthusiast — the illustration style employed by the quartet is a significant — and stunningly lovely — departure from their usual technique.
