Canoe & Kayak Routes of NW Oregon 3RD Edition

by Phillip Jones

Canoe & Kayak Routes of NW Oregon 3RD Edition Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Book News Annotation:

Clear line maps and some b&w photos supplement the thorough descriptions of 74 paddle routes (eight are new to this edition). This is a guide that's had time to mature as the first edition was published in 1982, under the title Canoe Routes: Northwest Oregon; the second edition was published in 1997. Jones is a Portland-based outdoor enthusiast, and his book is carefully assembled. An introductory chapter offers tips on selecting canoes and kayaks, paddling technique, safety, and car shuttles, among other topics. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

This book has everything you need to plan a safe and enjoyable kayak or canoe voyage. The 75 routes listed are all within 2 hrs driving of Portland and include information of where to begin and end, aproximate distance and time, and good lunch spots. Also included are what time of year is best for route, whether or not you need a parking or forest service pass and which routes should be reserved for more experienced paddlers. It also gives tips about which routes are not safe during hunting season (always important information in Oregon)!
