Publisher Comments:

Ever since his father's arrest for the murder of Little Red Riding Hood, teen wolf Henry Whelp has kept a low profile in a Home for Wayward Wolves . . . until a murder at the Home leads Henry to believe his father may have been framed. Now, with the help of his kleptomaniac roommate, Jack, and a daring she-wolf named Fiona, Henry will have to venture deep into the heart of Dust City: a rundown, gritty metropolis where fairydust is craved by everyone and controlled by a dangerous mob of Water Nixies and their crime boss leader, Skinner. Can Henry solve the mystery of his family's sinister past? Or, like his father before him, is he destined for life as a big bad wolf?

Dust City has action and interesting characters, but nothing really special. Dust City is a sort of fairy tale reimagined as a sort of thriller fiction. Henry Whelp is the son of the Big Bad Wolf - yes that Big Bad Wolf. With his father in prison for two murders, Henry was living in a home for troubled young wolves until he learns that his father may have been drugged and set up as the fall guy by a crime lord. Henry runs away from the home to find proof that his father was framed and to bring down the criminal kingpin who set his father up. Once Henry sets out on his quest, the fact that he is a wolf is almost irrelevant. The story becomes a semi-suspenseful action packed, but formulaic and predictable adventure story. Henry, of course, has a loyal buddy, Fiona, helping him. And of course, he gets some magical help and has to fight some evil creatures. And there will probably be a sequel. That said, Dust City is entertaining and a quick read making it a good choice for reluctant readers.
