Publisher Comments:

In celebration of StoryCorps ten year anniversary, Ties That Bind goes to the heart of the projects great mission, sharing stories that are a testament to family and to the diversity of American experience. From the story of one couple separated temporarily by divorce and then permanently by the tragedy of 9/11, to the amazing power of forgiveness shown by a mother toward her sons repentant killer, these are moving, uplifting, real-life stories from everyday Americans, gathered by StoryCorps and heard on NPRs Morning Edition.

This highlight edition features exclusive audio contents, including StoryCorps founder Dave Isay in conversation with NPRs Scott Simon, as well as oral historian Studs Terkels memorable dedication of the StoryCorps booth in Grand Central Terminal. These moving, humanity-drenched, first-person accounts epitomize the strength of the ties that bind us to each other, against the pull of powerful forces.

Review:

"Isay's oral history project StoryCorps offers this fascinating and inspiring set of interviews and discussions to celebrate its 10-year anniversary. Hosted by Scott Simon in discussion with Isay, this audiobook contains captivating stories focused on family and American life, featuring the likes of everyone from of renowned historian Studs Terkel to Carl McNair, the older brother of one of the astronauts killed when the space shuttle Challenger exploded. Short but sweet, this single-disc audio edition boasts strong readings of tales that cover everything from racism and death to science and an abundance of things in between. A Penguin hardcover."
