Publisher Comments:

The adventures of wily Commissar Cain, his malodorous aide Jurgen, and the 296th Valhallans have proved great favourites among Black Library fans. This omnibus edition is an attractive introduction to a very popular series.

What would you get if a mad scientist spliced the DNA of Flashman and Blackadder?
Why, Ciaphas Cain--HERO OF THE IMPERIUM! A consummate coward and narcissist who spends most of his time desperately avoiding anything like danger. Too bad he joined the Imperial Guard...
In the grimdark future of Warhammer 40K, war is unending and humanity is doomed. And all Cain wants is to left alone to drink tea,
Alas, tyranids, orks, necrons and Chaos cultists (not to mention his superiors, who unquestioningly believe Cain's self-created legend) have other ideas. Somehow, Cain always comes out looking like a hero. Proof that humor and the grimdark 40K universe can mix.

A very good way to introduce oneself to the Ciaphas Cain series.
Well, most people who have read the WarHammer 40k novels or have known the universe see it as a dark war torn universe. This series brings humor into the universe. How? Just get this book and read it. I don't wnt o reveal anything much but if you have like the earlier novels of any other series then this one you would surely adore..

This novels begins 8 weeks after Cain becomes a Commissar and gets attached to a Valhallan Artillery regiment. Cains instinct for self-preservation tell him he is in the safest place he can be in on the battlefield but soon he is pitching wars on the front trying to save his own skin which incidentally is seen as a heroic act by the rest of his men.
Sandy Mitchell is the best WarHammer 40k novelist I have ever seen. The way humor and War is portrayed in this novel is truly genius and is a must read if you really want to break out of the regular Dark stories in the WarHammer 40k universe
