Synopses & Reviews

Synopsis:

Mrs. Winkler's telescope looks not into the night sky, but instead into the hearts of men and women. Humorous adventures with spiritual lessons. Brilliantly illustrated with beautiful classic style fine-line black and white drawings, reminiscent of Wind in the Willows. Twelve stories, nothing scary--very lovely and imaginative. Stories revolve around Mrs. Winkler's amazing candy shop and bakery, with her observatory upstairs called The Contemplatorium. Several adventures involve a flying ice-cream truck. Two children, Annie and Arthur, are her constant companions, and she has many unusual friends. Suitable for ages 7-14. Adults love it Excellent for reading aloud.

Sydney Kapchan, January 6, 2013 (view all comments by Sydney Kapchan)
Mrs. Winkler's Cure is one of the best collections of stories I've read. Our eight-year-old neighbor read the stories and spontaneously acted out and danced to the story lines. A treasure of a book, whether reading to three-year-olds and sharing the beautiful, sweet illustrations, or laughing with the older kids at the adventures of the three main characters, we all enjoy these unique stories. Flights of fancy meet real feelings. A special book for all.
