Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Sam Adams was a graduate of Harvard College and from 1963 to 1973 was an intelligence analyst for the CIA. Adams died in 1988.

Synopsis:

In the fall of 1967 Lyndon B. Johnson and the Pentagon were telling the American people that the Vietnam war was on the verge of being won. But Sam Adams, a young intelligence analyst with the CIA, was causing an ungodly ruckus in both Washington and Saigon with his stacks of documents showing that enemy forces inside South Vietnam were twice as big as the military claimed. Adams' insistence in telling the truth later led to a CBS documentary and a notorious trial on libel charges brought by General William Westmoreland. "There are many popular books on Vietnam, but but only a few 'classics'. War of Numbers will become a classic". (Marine Corps Gazette) "As spellbinding as a mystery story, which of course it is" (Boston Globe).
